Choice bro's and cuzzies

I did it, I got ruddy lights up and holy mother of baby jesus (or something like that for this time of year) it were cold. Shalanger (langas, langa, lang, shaymus, muss, the big one, the hub, me old man) Sean, actually came outside and helped me do it, whoooo hooo. We had to keep going inside to thaw out our fingers, and it took a few days coz we didn't have any extension cords BUT we now have christmas lawn lights. I have to admit they are not as fullsome and twinkly as our good neighbours, in fact they look a bit tatty and possibly shabs, maybe even bitty and sparse or one could say at a stretch... tacky. But we have them up on our house and we are now American.
The Stags head even moves from side to illuminated side. Fab.

Speaking of deer saw some sad and massive roadkill which strangely was tagged, and minus a head. Grusome. Not sure what that means, maybe they coudln't fit the whole thing on the roof of the BMW so they just took the head!?? There is a serious amount of squirrel roadkill here. I am strangely compelled to paint it, what is that??? They are so cute when they are alive and Molly has a jolly time chasing them ferociously through the forest. She does however tend to slam head first into trees on this mission and comes home crying. I need to cut her a fringe. Will post pics of the lights soon.

Christmas Tree

We had our first experience cutting down a live Christmas Tree at the tree farm. We are not really sure how we feel about that but while in America.... You gotta get into it right??!! Had a great day freezing next to an American version of the winter BBQ. It was fun and the kids had a great time sledding. We met some great people who were very friendly, and ended up going back to the Doyles (new friends) house for a pizza dinner. I of course had one too many cocktails and probably said something inappropriate. They haven't phoned since.... I am working on my American social protocol, note to self; excessive enjoyment of vodka is a no-no.

There was quite a bit of snow which has sadly melted now and today it is a balmy 16.6 degrees!
We have continued to see gorgeous deer wandering through the forest behind the house, it is such a surprise every time I see them, love it.

I have bitten the decoration bullet and purchased some outdoor festive lights. Much to Avalon's horror; 'thats soooo tacky mum'. She is right I know but, you gotta get into it right??!!! So I will put up the flashing stag, doe and fawn along with the plastic lit snowflakes and 8 jolly lawn snowmen. Langas might even get on a ladder to help with the porch lights. I may need to bribe him though cos he LOVES doing anything handy.

Avalon is well and might have the solo in the choir performance of a holy song in January which is very exciting. She is singing on Friday at her dance school as well. I reckon she should get a band together, again I am a dork. She is nearly as tall as me now. something I am truly not ready for!

Jordy had a presentation of some of his recent work at school and had to speak into a microphone in front of everyone, this is his idea of torture. He did it very well and I was so teary and proud.

Sebastian and I met with a new eye doctor yesterday who is going to do some eye/brain retraining and is positive it will correct his eye turn in six months. This will negate the need for another surgery which is fantastic.

More Snow

Basty woke us up this morning with, 'snow', 'snow'! Much bigger dump than the first time, and we all had to go out to investigate before breakfast in our pyjama-snow gear. Kids immediately into the sledding...

wow first blog!

Okay so I haven't ever blogged before, actually I haven't even read one either. i just wanted to keep a wee record of our adventures here in Connecticut. You never know how long these things will last. We do love it here though and hope to stay for a while. We just need to convince immigration and visa control...

we had snow for the first time the other day. It was the first time that the little boys had seen snow and with huge excitement we got coats on and ran outside at 8am. There was quite a bit falling from the sky and it settled on the ground without melting immediately. They tried to get some on their tongues and threw small soft snow balls at each other (basty didn't like that bit). The three of them desperately eeked out some sledding down a small hill which unfortunately ended at the stone wall. Sebastians knees met the stone wall too. He doesn't love snow anymore.
Jordy and Avalon stayed outside for a while and built a sculptural version of a snowman while I waved merrily from the warmth of inside.

We have woken to many a frosty morning and laugh as the steam comes out of our mouths while we wait for the school bus.

The marvellous yellow school bus, what a fantastic invention, just like on TV. You wait at the end of your driveway with a cup of tea and wave the kids goodbye, off they go... and in the afternoon, voila they are back again. You don't even have to get out of your dressing gown, magic.

Most of the houses around us have put up their Christmas lights and decorations. I think I will be shamed into dressing our house too. It will become obvious if I don't. It is pretty to look at but it seems like a waste of money to me. I would rather spend the money decorating the tree we will have inside or on gifts for the kids. Not on the humongous electricity bill we will get or the hundreds of dollars it will cost to buy the bloody things. But we will stand out, will we be the only house in Fairfield with no decorations? Will we be know as the bah humbug family? will the kids be jeered at and teased at school? Will our house be egged in disgust?

You cant hide from a naked house.
